Every year World Environment day is celebrated based on a particular theme, this theme is decided by United Nations just to encourage more mass of people to take part in addressing environmental issues on Global scale. Year 2016’s “World Environment Day” slogan is “Join the race to make the world a better place”. Yes!! It is a race to protect our environment for us. We celebrate many kind of days like ‘Mother’s Day’, ‘Father’s Day’, ‘Friendship Day’,Etc. World Environment Day History:
To raise awareness about the importance of the healthy and green environment in human lives World Environment Day which is also known as WED was started as an annual event on 5th June, 1973.
On this day some positive actions are taken to aware the public worldwide about the environmental issues and making them know that every individual is responsible for improving environment not only a government member or organizations working for it.
World environment day was first established to be celebrated every year by running some effective campaigns by the United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the conference on Human Environment began from 5th to 16th of June at United Nations in 1972. It was first time celebrated in 1973 with the particular theme “Only one Earth”. Since 1974, the celebration campaign of the world environment day is hosted in different cities of the world.
Why Word Environment Day is celebrated Or what activities should be done to protect our Environment:
Word Environment Day was started as an annual campaign just to aware the locality about the importance of Environment and what should they do protect it. Globe is facing many environmental issues like wastage of food, global warming, cutting of trees and forests, global warming and so on.
It is celebrated to successfully get carbon neutrality, focusing on the forest management, reducing greenhouse effects, promoting bio-fuels production by planting on degraded lands, use of hydro-power to enhance electricity production, encourage common public to use solar water heaters, energy production through solar sources, developing new drainage systems, promoting coral reefs and mangroves restoration in order to get prevented from flooding and erosion including other ways of environmental preservation.
